The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) (lit. Central Bank of the Philippines) was inaugurated on January 3, 1949 with with Miguel Cuaderno, Sr. as first governor.
On July 3, 1993, pursuant to the provision of Republic Act 7653 or the New Central Bank Act of 1993, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas was granted fiscal and administrative autonomy.
